National Library Week
National Library Week, celebrated from April 7th to 13th, is a time to acknowledge and appreciate the invaluable work of our librarians. Our librarians dedicate themselves to creating welcoming environments, curating diverse collections, and providing resources that inspire and educate. National Assistant Principals Week
National Assistant Principals Week, observed from April 8th to 12th, is a special time to recognize the vital contributions of our assistant principals. These dedicated individuals play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our schools and the success of our students.
Assistant principals wear many hats, from supporting teachers and staff to fostering a positive school culture and engaging with parents and the community. They work tirelessly behind the scenes, often without much recognition, to create a safe, nurturing environment where all students can thrive. Breakfast and Books
The Breakfast and Books events at Little Mountain Elementary have become a great success! These events play a vital role in fostering a love for reading among students and provides them with the opportunity to showcase their skills to their families. Thank you staff at Little Mountain Elementary for creating moments like these with our families.
Exploring Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values through Classroom Visits
This week, I had a chance to stop by Jefferson Elementary and Mount Baker Middle School to visit classrooms. At Jefferson, I stopped by Renee Warrick’s and Nathan Brown’s classrooms filled with students eager to learn new concepts in literature and math respectively! At Mount Baker Middle School, I visited Dustin Ozaki and Jeff Dutton’s PE classes, as students worked to improve their physical self and coordination skills. I also had an opportunity to stop by Andrea Brannman’s band class where students were intently learning about the important characteristics of performance. Once again, I was impressed by the high level of engagement and learning taking place in our schools
Migrant Wellness Day Event
This week the MVSD hosted its annual Migrant Wellness Day event at Skagit Valley College. With over 150 students from MVSD and neighboring districts, this event was a great success. Students had an opportunity to learn in-depth about social emotional and self-wellness. Thank you to the staff who helped put on such a great event!
Board Study Session at Little Mountain
As you may be aware, the board holds their monthly meeting at different school locations to allow each school to showcase its achievements. This month, Little Mountain had the honor of hosting the board meeting. Students and staff seized this opportunity to highlight the remarkable work taking place in their school. Thank you, Little Mountain, for hosting! Below are a couple of pictures from that evening's event.
TTK Farm Field Trip
Last week, TTK had an amazing farm field trip to Ralph's Greenhouse, where farmer Ray Devries gave classrooms a tour of his vegetable farm. The students watched a large truck being loaded with produce, saw how produce was washed and packaged, and explored the cold room. They also observed people repairing tractors and constructing various items. Some highlights included digging in the dirt with small wooden bulldozers that Farmer Ray had made for each child, climbing on tractors, and helping to feed the baby goats. This year, TTK classes went on the trip in smaller groups on three different days. A big thank you to Ray Devries for dedicating so much time to our youngest learners. In class, students are learning about the different types of farms in the Skagit Valley and the crucial role that our farmers and farm workers play. Robotics Competition
This weekend IMVERT, FRC Team 4173, competed at the FIIRST PNW Sammamish event. We had a very successful weekend which included being alliance captains in the semi-finals and having the second highest score of the event! A great job by a very small team that includes students grades 8-12. Thank you Michelle Slater and others advisors for supporting our students!!

MVHS Latinos in Action Multicultural Night a Huge Success!
Mr. Flores's Latinos in Action (LIA) class hosted an exceptional event last Friday, March 22nd - the third annual Latinos in Action Multicultural Night. The event drew over 1000 attendees, including community leaders from across Skagit County. The Multicultural Festival showcased performances by MV Folklorico, MV Mariachi, MVHS Pacific Islander Club, MVHS Punjabi Dancers, K-Pop Dancers, Folklorico Wenatchee, Orgullo de México, Burlington-Edison High School Ballet Folklorico, Marvin Palacios, Squalicum High School Latino Hip Hop Rapper Singer Clarissa Herrera, and Mount Vernon Mixteco Dancers.

Skagit Academy students creating amazing content
Skagit Academy students in Patrick Marker’s classroom are creating amazing content. They recently shared with me their “Tech Team News” which showcases Skagit Academy students sharing updates on their school and other local news.
Skagit Academy students have recently produced an impressive Storyteller's video featuring students reading "Nell Plants a Tree," a story that highlights a young girl's meticulous care of a pecan tree and explores the interconnectedness of all living things.
Jefferson hosts two great family events
Jefferson Elementary hosted two fantastic family events recently. The first was its annual STEM night, which attracted families and students excited to learn about science. A big shout out to the students and staff who helped organize this event for the community.
On Saturday, March 23rd, Jefferson hosted a Bike Rodeo, where students could bring their bikes. This provided students with the chance to get their bikes serviced and have their helmets checked for safety. Thank you, Jefferson, for hosting these wonderful events!
MVHS Mariachi All Stars
The Mariachi All Stars made the front page of today's Skagit Valley Herald! A huge thank you to Ramon Rivera, Dr. Roche and Mr. Carlton for their continued support of the Mariachi All Star Program, ensuring that everyone at Mount Vernon High School has access to music education.
MVHS Mariachi All-Stars showcased at the MVSD Parent Academy
The MVHS Mariachi All-Stars were featured at the MVSD Parent Academy. Led by Ramon Rivera, they performed their first concert on Saturday, March 23rd. The group presented four songs to an audience of about 250 parents, staff, and students during the lunchtime celebration, receiving enthusiastic applause. Additionally, a video of the MV Mariachi All Stars was recently posted on the MV Mariachi Instagram, and has reached an impressive 800K views! A special thanks to our SLC Teachers Milo Marcos and Gina Garding for their assistance in making this new group such a success.
Science Night
The MVHS is hosting the annual Science Night. This FREE event is taking place on Thursday April 18, from 5-8 pm. There will be Planetarium shows, hands-on activities, local business and organizations that use science, and so much more. Be sure to stop by and bring your family and friends. Kinder Registration
Kinder Registration has begun for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. If you know a family who has a child turning 5 by August 31, 2024, please feel free to share this information with them. Registration packets can be filled out online here.
Migrant Parent Academy
This last weekend, the district hosted the annual Migrant Parent Academy. This day-long event featured breakout sessions and a community resource fair. The event was a great success, with over 250 parents, staff, and students in attendance. The resource fair, which provided information from about 40 local agencies, gave families a chance to learn about resources in the community. A huge thank you to all of the amazing staff, students, and families who contributed their time to put on a great event!
MVHS Scholarship Foundation
Did you know that the MVHS Scholarship Foundation has awarded over half a million dollars in scholarships since it was established in 1983? This organization raises funds that go directly to MVHS students seeking AA degrees, vocational and technical school degrees, as well as four-year degrees. This year they are awarding twelve $2,500 scholarships and would love to be able to give even more next year. Safety, Security, and Technology Levy
As you’ve likely heard, we are rerunning the Safety, Security, and Technology replacement levy, and it will be on the April 23rd ballot. This week we hosted our first of three community forums. Our next two events are happening on April 9th via zoom at 6pm and April 16th in person at Madison Elementary and via zoom and facebook live. Hope to see you there!

- This past weekend MVHS sophomore Sophia Kiehn and Bri'Anm Beckley, Arlington High School Junior completed their Washington High School Equestrian Team season by earning a bronze medal in cow sorting. They will move on and will compete at the state level at Moses Lake in May. Great job, Sophia and Bri'Anm, of Arlington HS
- Congratulations to Zachary Bautista and Zoe Villalon, this month's Kiwanis students of the month from Aspire! They were honored with a special lunch and had the opportunity to share their future plans.
- This week, Harriet Rowley recognized students who earned the Honesty Awards in March. Great job, students!

Semana Nacional de Subdirectores
La Semana Nacional de los Subdirectores, que se celebra del 8 al 12 de abril, es un momento especial para reconocer las contribuciones vitales de nuestros subdirectores. ¡Los eventos de Desayuno y Libros en la Primaria Little Mountain se han convertido en un gran éxito! Explorando el Pilar 1: Misión, Visión y Valores Fundamentales a través de visitas a las aulas
Esta semana, tuve la oportunidad de pasar por la escuela primaria Jefferson y la escuela secundaria Mount Baker para visitar las aulas. En Jefferson, pasé por las aulas de Renee Warrick y Nathan Brown llenas de estudiantes ansiosos por aprender nuevos conceptos en literatura y matemáticas, respectivamente. Esta semana, MVSD organizó su evento anual del Día del Bienestar del Migrante en Skagit Valley College. Con más de 150 estudiantes de MVSD y distritos vecinos, este evento fue un gran éxito. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender en profundidad sobre el bienestar social, emocional y personal. ¡Gracias al personal que ayudó a organizar un evento tan fantástico!
Sesión de estudio de la mesa directiva en Little Mountain
Como ya sabrá, la mesa directiva celebra su reunión mensual en diferentes ubicaciones escolares para permitir que cada escuela muestre sus logros. Este mes, Little Mountain tuvo el honor de albergar la reunión de la mesa directiva. Los estudiantes y el personal aprovecharon esta oportunidad para resaltar el notable trabajo que se lleva a cabo en su escuela. ¡Gracias, Little Mountain, por hospedarnos! Excursión a la granja TTK
La semana pasada, TTK realizó un increíble viaje de campo a Ralph's Greenhouse, donde el granjero Ray Devries dio a las aulas un recorrido por su granja de vegetales. Concurso de Robótica
Este fin de semana IMVERT, equipo FRC 4173, compitió en el PRIMER evento PNW Sammamish. ¡Tuvimos un fin de semana muy exitoso que incluyó ser capitanes de alianza en las semifinales y obtener el segundo puntaje más alto del evento! Un gran trabajo realizado por un equipo muy pequeño que incluye estudiantes de los grados 8-12. ¡¡Gracias Michelle Slater y otros asesores por apoyar a nuestros estudiantes!!

Jefferson organiza dos grandes eventos familiares
La Primaria Jefferson organizó recientemente dos fantásticos eventos familiares. La primera fue su noche anual STEM, que atrajo a familias y estudiantes entusiasmados por aprender sobre ciencias. Un gran agradecimiento a los estudiantes y al personal que ayudaron a organizar este evento para la comunidad.
El sábado 23 de marzo, Jefferson organizó un rodeo de bicicletas, donde los estudiantes pudieron traer sus bicicletas. Esto brindó a los estudiantes la oportunidad de reparar sus bicicletas y revisar sus cascos por seguridad. ¡Gracias, Jefferson, por organizar estos maravillosos eventos!
MVHS Mariachi Todas las Estrellas

Noche de ciencia
El MVHS organiza la Noche de Ciencias anual. Este evento GRATUITO se llevará a cabo el jueves 18 de abril de 5 a 8 p. m. Academia de padres
El último fin de semana, el distrito organizó la Academia anual para padres. Este evento de un día contó con sesiones de trabajo y una feria de recursos comunitarios. El evento fue un gran éxito, con la asistencia de más de 250 padres, personal y estudiantes. La feria de recursos, que brindó información de aproximadamente 40 agencias locales, brindó a las familias la oportunidad de conocer los recursos de la comunidad. ¡Muchísimas gracias a todo el increíble personal, estudiantes y familias que contribuyeron con su tiempo para organizar un gran evento!
Fundación de Becas MVHS
¿Sabía que la Fundación de Becas MVHS ha otorgado más de medio millón de dólares en becas desde su creación en 1983? Esta organización recauda fondos que van directamente a los estudiantes de MVHS que buscan títulos AA, títulos de escuelas técnicas y vocacionales, así como títulos de cuatro años. Impuesto sobre seguridad, protección y tecnología
Como probablemente habrá escuchado, volveremos a ejecutar el impuesto de reemplazo de seguridad, protección y tecnología, y estará en la boleta electoral del 23 de abril. Esta semana organizamos nuestro primero de tres foros comunitarios. Nuestros próximos dos eventos se llevarán a cabo el 9 de abril vía zoom a las 6 p.m. y el 16 de abril en persona en Madison Elementary y vía zoom y facebook en vivo. ¡Espero verte allí!

- El fin de semana pasado, Sophia Kiehn, estudiante de segundo año de MVHS, y Bri'Anm Beckley, estudiante de tercer año de la escuela secundaria de Arlington, completaron su temporada del equipo ecuestre de la escuela secundaria de Washington al ganar una medalla de bronce en clasificación de vacas.
