School Board Director Dr. Rob Coffey was honored by the American College of Physicians (Washington Chapter) with the organization’s 2011 Community Service Award in ceremonies held on November 3 in Seattle. Dr. Coffey has served on the Mount Vernon School Board for five years, and was re-elected to another 4-year term in November. Dr. Coffey teaches inpatient internal medicine to 3rd-year medical students from Pacific Northwest University. These students are part of Skagit Regional Health’s Graduate Medical Education Program. Dr. Coffey has volunteered for eight years helping to teach advanced math and science students at Mount Vernon High School, working with students taking advanced placement courses in calculus, statistics, physics, chemistry and biology (as well as the math and science courses leading up to those classes). |
