Happy Friday,
The onset of October is fast approaching. During this month, we commemorate various significant occasions including National Italian-American Heritage Month, National German-American Heritage Month, Czech Heritage Month, Polish American Heritage Month, National Bullying Prevention Month, National Principals Month, Crime Prevention Month, and Learning Disability Month. I look forward to sharing information about how our schools plan to highlight these meaningful observances throughout the month.
Attendance Awareness Month
Have you had the opportunity to watch the incredible attendance video I shared with you last Friday? Well, I've got another fantastic one for you today! We posed the question to our students: "Why is it important to come to school every day" and their answers were absolutely on point! We know that attendance is important, and our Every Day Counts initiative aligns with Pillar 1 of our Four Pillars of Support and Success. Bulldog Coffee Cafe
The Bulldog Coffee Cafe, overseen by MVHS teacher Deven Grant and operated by her students, welcomes visitors every Green Friday between 8:30am and 11am. Their upcoming café will be held on October 13th in room S102. Students enrolled in the SLC and ILC programs are actively engaged in acquiring job skills as a preparatory step for their post-high school Transition program. I had the pleasure of visiting their establishment last Friday and indulged in a delightful coffee and sweet treat. Great job, Deven, and kudos to her dedicated students for their outstanding work. I strongly recommend taking the opportunity to visit if you can.
Tea with Dr. V
As part of our Four Pillars of Support and Success (Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values) I sat down with Executive Director of Categorical Programs, Dan Berard, during this month’s Tea with Dr. V. He discussed the various programs that our organization provides within the Mount Vernon School District. Dan provided information on the additional funding, and detailed the district’s intended use of these resources. I encourage you to take a moment to view this informative video. You can find it here.

- This week, our Athletic Director, Jordan Sneva received a heartwarming email from a coach in a neighboring district. They were truly impressed with all of our coaches, particularly Coach Dang, who displayed a supportive and positive coaching style. Equally, our students, notably Ella Burton, left a lasting impression. Furthermore, our students stayed behind to assist in dismantling the nets and referee stands, showcasing a remarkably classy gesture. Way to go team and thank you Coach Dang for mentoring our students!
- Last Saturday, the MV Band and MV Folklorico participated in the Autumn Leaf Festival in Leavenworth, Washington. The MVHS Band and Folklorico made the journey with three buses to lead a parade in front of a large audience in Leavenworth. Way to go, Bulldogs! Excellent work to Mr. Scherr, Ms. Cordona, and Mr. Rivera!
- Last Tuesday, our Latinos in Action Program organized an LIA Homecoming Fashion event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, demonstrating our support for our community partner, Martha Bridal. If you’d like to watch the fashion show, you can find that here. Kudos to Mr. Rivera, Mr. Flores, Mr. Sixto, Ms. Padilla, and Mr. Serrano, our exceptional LIA team!

El inicio de octubre se acerca rápidamente. Café Bulldog
El Bulldog Coffee Cafe, supervisado por la maestra de MVHS Deven Grant y operado por sus estudiantes, da la bienvenida a los visitantes todos los Viernes Verdes entre las 8:30 a. m. y las 11 a. m. Su próximo café se llevará a cabo el 13 de octubre en la sala S102. Los estudiantes matriculados en los programas SLC e ILC participan activamente en la adquisición de habilidades laborales como paso preparatorio para su programa de transición posterior a la escuela secundaria. Tuve el placer de visitar su establecimiento el viernes pasado y disfrutar de un delicioso café y un dulce. Gran trabajo, Deven, y felicitaciones a sus dedicados estudiantes por su excelente trabajo. Recomiendo encarecidamente aprovechar la oportunidad para visitarlo si puedes.
Té con el Dr. V
Como parte de nuestros Cuatro Pilares de Apoyo y Éxito (Pilar 1: Misión, Visión y Valores Fundamentales), me senté con el Director Ejecutivo de Programas Categóricos, Dan Berard, durante el Té con el Dr. V de este mes. Él discutió los diversos programas que nuestra organización brinda dentro del distrito escolar de Mount Vernon. Dan proporcionó información sobre los fondos adicionales y detalló el uso previsto por parte del distrito de estos recursos. Le animo a que se tome un momento para ver este vídeo informativo. - Esta semana, nuestro director atlético, Jordan Sneva, recibió un correo electrónico conmovedor de un entrenador de un distrito vecino. Quedaron realmente impresionados con todos nuestros entrenadores, particularmente con el entrenador Dang, quien mostró un estilo de entrenamiento positivo y solidario. Del mismo modo, nuestros estudiantes, en particular Ella Burton, dejaron una impresión duradera. Además, nuestros alumnos se quedaron para ayudar a desmontar las redes y las tribunas de los árbitros, mostrando un gesto notablemente elegante. ¡Así se hace equipo y gracias al entrenador Dang por orientar a nuestros estudiantes!
- El sábado pasado, MV Band y MV Folklorico participaron en el Autumn Leaf Festival en Leavenworth, Washington. - El martes pasado, nuestro Programa Latinos en Acción organizó un evento LIA Homecoming Fashion para celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, demostrando nuestro apoyo a nuestra socia comunitaria, Martha Bridal.
