Superintendent Search
The MVSD Board of Directors selected Dr. Victor Vergara as the new superintendent. Dr. Vergara has previous experience working in schools similar to Mount Vernon, and most recently, as the Assistant Superintendent of Equity & Student Success with the Edmonds School District. Exploring Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values through Classroom Visits
This week, I had an opportunity to visit LaVenture Middle School where I stopped by Amy McFeely’s music classroom. I heard and watched students practicing instruments and learning new skills. During my visit to LaVenture, I also stopped by Tammy Wakeman-Dellutri’s art classroom where students were actively engaged and creating. Along with visiting classrooms, I got a chance to visit with Kinsey Shilling, who is a paraeducator at LaVenture. I am grateful for my time in buildings and classrooms, as they provide me a chance to see our amazing staff and students. Thank you, LaVenture principal, Dave Riddle, for hosting me. Speech Pathologist Day
Tomorrow (May 18th) we celebrate Speech Pathologist Day (SLP). SLP’s play an important role in our schools as they work with students to overcome speech barriers. Thank you MVSD SLP’s for your work in the lives of our students.
TTK Visit the beach
Recently, TTK students from Centennial Elementary had a chance to visit the beach. This fun-filled day was a great opportunity for our students to experience the outdoors, and explore sea life. Thank you, Michelle Kiehn, for sharing this photo with me.
Sports Update
- For the 3rd year in a row Sara Pate is heading to state golf. She was the 1st place individual at Districts last week! Great job Sara!
- The MVHS boys soccer team recently competed in the State Soccer Game, advancing to the final 16-team bracket in Washington. Despite not winning last night’s game, the team displayed remarkable dedication and effort throughout the entire season. We want to thank the coaches, Behr Ibarra, Adan Rodriguez, Brandon Caro, and Bernd Strom for their diligent preparation and to our athletes for their hard work and determination in reaching the State level. Go Bulldogs!
ASL Comedy Night
Tuesday night the ASL programs of MVHS and BEHS, along with their ASL clubs, welcomed members of the community and from around the North Sound area to share in an evening of humor through the eyes and experiences of Keith Wann. It was a tremendous amount of fun and we are all looking forward to next year's gathering! Thank you to all who came to support us. I had the opportunity to attend this wonderful event, and it was great to see our community come together.
LIA Recognition Night
LIA's Recognition Night was a resounding success with a full house celebrating the accomplishments and growth of LIA teachers and students. Each class collaborated to create a memorable evening. The students organized and ran the event, showcasing the leadership skills they have developed through the program. The night was filled with emotion, with both happy and sad tears, as the school year comes to an end and as staff prepare to say goodbye to part of their Bulldog familia. AVID Senior Night
Last night, we honored 84 AVID seniors at the 21st Annual AVID Senior Night. This long-standing event has become a cherished tradition, providing our staff with an opportunity to celebrate our students' accomplishments. I was able to witness all the amazing achievements of our students during the Senior Board Gallery Walk. We extend our gratitude to all the MVSD staff for their support throughout our students' journeys. A big shout-out to Ali Lilly and her team for making this event possible, and thanks to the AVID tutors and teachers. Congratulations, students!
NCTA Kitchen Wars 2024
The NCTA Kitchen Wars event was a tremendous success, with over 300 guests served! The event raised $5000 in ticket sales, merchandise sales, and sponsorships (EDASC, Industrial Credit Union, and Savi Bank). The collaboration between the Money and Business and Culinary programs were seamless. Over 50 students led the night and worked very well exemplifying hospitality, sales, and their featured culinary creativity with 11 different international cuisines. Chef Lyle and teacher Liam Cary-Eaves said they couldn't be more proud of their students and the efforts they showcased in the months leading up to the event. So, who were the winners? Can Do Crew swept best appetizer (beef and potato samosas) and best mocktail (Mango pomegranate daiquiri). However, even though Can Do Crew is an a.m. team, the p.m. culinary class won with the most team votes. Culinary was declared the overall winner of Kitchen Wars 2024.
Little Mountain hosts Multicultural Night event
Little Mountain Elementary is hosting the Multicultural Night tonight, May 17th from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. There will be live performances, music, food, and more! You won't want to miss this fantastic event! See you there!
Snow make up day
May 28, 2024, as a full day for TK-12th
Skagit Academy: No School since they attended virtually on the snow closure day
June 21, 2024, this will be a 2-hour early release for all students

Kinder Registration
Kinder Registration has begun for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. If you know a family who has a child turning 5 by August 31, 2024, please share this information with them. Registration packets can be completed online here.
Kinder Connect
This week the district hosted three Kinder Connect events. We want to thank every staff member who helped with these events. Kinder Connect is a time to allow students to connect with their school, and to Washington Elementary Connect; this is the link to that article. A shout out to the NCTA Money and Business Class who printed shirts for our little learners at Washington that stated, “Today a Wolf…Tomorrow a Bulldog…Class of 2037”. We will continue to hold additional Kinder Connect events in the weeks to come.

Búsqueda de superintendente
La Junta Directiva de MVSD seleccionó al Dr. Víctor Vergara como nuevo superintendente. El Dr. Vergara tiene experiencia previa trabajando en escuelas similares a Mount Vernon y, más recientemente, como Asistente de Superintendente de Equidad y Éxito Estudiantil en el Distrito Escolar de Edmonds. Esta semana tuve la oportunidad de visitar la escuela secundaria LaVenture, donde pasé por la clase de música de Amy McFeely. Escuché y vi a los estudiantes practicando instrumentos y aprendiendo nuevas habilidades. Durante mi visita a LaVenture, también pasé por la clase de arte de Tammy Wakeman-Dellutri, donde los estudiantes participaban activamente y creaban. Dia de Patólogo de Habla
Mañana (18 de mayo) celebramos el Día del Patólogo del Habla (SLP). Los SLP juegan un papel importante en nuestras escuelas ya que trabajan con los estudiantes para superar las barreras del habla. Gracias MVSD SLP por su trabajo en las vidas de nuestros estudiantes.
TTK Visita la playa
Recientemente, los estudiantes de TTK de la Primaria Centennial tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar la playa.Este día lleno de diversión fue una gran oportunidad para que nuestros estudiantes experimentaran el aire libre y explorarán la vida marina. Actualización deportiva
- Por tercer año consecutivo, Sara Pate se dirige al golf estatal. ¡Ella obtuvo el primer lugar individual en Distritos la semana pasada! ¡Buen trabajo Sara!
- El equipo de fútbol masculino de MVHS compitió recientemente en el Juego de Fútbol Estatal, avanzando al grupo final de 16 equipos en Washington. A pesar de no ganar el partido de anoche, el equipo demostró una dedicación y un esfuerzo notables durante toda la temporada. Queremos agradecer a los entrenadores Behr Ibarra, Adán Rodríguez, Brandon Caro y Bernd Strom por su diligente preparación y a nuestros atletas por su arduo trabajo y determinación para alcanzar el nivel Estatal. ¡Vamos Bulldogs!
Noche de comedia ASL
El martes por la noche, los programas de ASL de MVHS y BEHS, junto con sus clubes de ASL, dieron la bienvenida a miembros de la comunidad y de todo el área de North Sound para compartir una noche de humor a través de los ojos y las experiencias de Keith Wann. ¡Fue muy divertido y todos esperamos con ansias la reunión del próximo año! Gracias a todos los que vinieron a apoyar. Tuve la oportunidad de asistir a este maravilloso evento y fue fantástico ver a nuestra comunidad unirse.
Noche de Reconocimiento LIA
La Noche de Reconocimientos de LIA fue un éxito rotundo con casa llena celebrando los logros y el crecimiento de los maestros y estudiantes de LIA. Cada clase colaboró para crear una noche memorable. Los estudiantes organizaron y dirigieron el evento, mostrando las habilidades de liderazgo que desarrollaron a través del programa. La noche estuvo llena de emoción, con lágrimas de felicidad y tristeza, mientras el año escolar llega a su fin y el personal se prepara para despedirse de parte de su familia Bulldog. AVID Senior Night
21.ª Noche Anual para los estudiantes de 12 grado de AVID. Este evento de larga data se ha convertido en una querida tradición, brindando a nuestro personal la oportunidad de celebrar los logros de nuestros estudiantes. Pude presenciar todos los increíbles logros de nuestros estudiantes durante la caminata por la galería de la Junta Senior. Extendemos nuestro agradecimiento a todo el personal de MVSD por su apoyo durante el viaje de nuestros estudiantes.Un gran agradecimiento a Ali Lilly y su equipo por hacer posible este evento, y gracias a los tutores y profesores de AVID. ¡Felicitaciones, estudiantes!
Guerras de cocina NCTA 2024
¡El evento NCTA Kitchen Wars fue un gran éxito, con más de 300 invitados atendidos! El evento recaudó $5000 en venta de entradas, venta de mercancías y patrocinios (EDASC, Industrial Credit Union y Savi Bank). La colaboración entre los programas de Dinero, Negocio, y culinarios fue perfecta. Más de 50 estudiantes dirigieron la noche y trabajaron muy bien ejemplificando la hospitalidad, las ventas y su creatividad culinaria destacada con 11 cocinas internacionales diferentes.El chef Lyle y el maestro Liam Cary-Eaves dijeron que no podrían estar más orgullosos de sus estudiantes y de los esfuerzos que demostraron en los meses previos al evento. Entonces, ¿quiénes fueron los ganadores? Can Do Crew arrasó con el mejor aperitivo (carne de res y samosas papa) y el mejor cóctel sin alcohol (daiquiri de mango y granada). Sin embargo, aunque Can Do Crew es un equipo de la mañana, el de la tarde la clase culinaria ganó con la mayor cantidad de votos del equipo. Culinary fue declarado ganador absoluto de Kitchen Wars 2024.
Little Mountain organiza evento de Noche Multicultural

Esta semana el distrito organizó tres eventos Conecta a Kinder. Queremos agradecer a todos los miembros del personal que ayudaron con estos eventos. Conecta a Kinder es un momento para permitir que los estudiantes se conecten con su escuela y con Washington Elementary Connect; este es el enlace a ese artículo.
