MVHS Multicultural Assembly

Washington hosted an ILC Night
Washington Elementary hosted an ILC Night, where specialists and ILC educators created engaging activities for students to enjoy with their families. This event's purpose was to foster teamwork among families and provide an opportunity to connect and network. A big thank you to the Washington Elementary staff and partners for putting together this special event!
Mariachi: From Elementary to College Thanks to MVSD!
Mariachi is thriving in Skagit Valley! It all began in 2012 when Jacob Scherr launched a Mariachi after-school club at MVHS with just nine students. Since then, the program has flourished and expanded to Mount Baker Middle School, LaVenture Middle School, Burlington-Edison High School, Centennial Elementary School, Skagit Valley College, and next year, Sedro-Woolley High School will join the movement. A big shout out to all the staff who have helped spread the joy of Mariachi: Daisy Cardona, Ramon Rivera, Andrea Brannman, Rachel Wolf, and Rene Godina. Here’s a picture of the combined Mariachi Azteca from MVHS, LaVenture, Mount Baker Middle School, Centennial Elementary, and Skagit Valley College.
WA State Day of Percussion at MVHS
This past weekend, Daisy Cardona from Mount Vernon High School organized and hosted the Washington State Percussive Arts Society Chapter's Day of Percussion. The event featured clinicians from WSU, WWU, and other esteemed high school directors. Participants attended clinics on Drum Set, West African Percussion, Marching Percussion, and Marimba Fundamentals, with a special performance by the Puyallup Pans of Steel Drum Band. MVHS Band and Orchestra Concert
Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the MVHS Band and Orchestra Concert. The event filled the MVHS auditorium and showcased performances by the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and MVHS Symphony Orchestra. Our students did an amazing job. Thank you to the staff for organizing this event.
NCTA Academy Awards
This week, NCTA hosted its Academy Awards to celebrate the completion of the program. Families had the opportunity to visit the NCTA campus and witness the incredible achievements of their students this year. Thank you, NCTA, for hosting this event.
Exploring Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values through Classroom Visits
This week, I had the opportunity to visit Skagit Academy, where Principal Dr. Kecia Fox and I toured the school facilities. Thank you, Dr. Fox and staff, for all the great learning and engagement you provide to our amazing students!!
LaVenture Welcomes Incoming 6th Graders
This week, LaVenture Middle School hosted an ice cream social, giving incoming 6th graders a chance to connect with students and staff. Families and new students received tours of the building during their visit. A huge shout out to the LaVenture Middle School staff and students!
Jefferson Garden Club
Last week, Jefferson Elementary held a successful plant sale, raising over $1500 for the Jefferson Garden Club through their annual flower basket and plant sale. Students nurtured these plant starts, generously donated by Smith Gardens, in the Jefferson greenhouse over the past few months. Roberta Carlson, Tegaan Klinker, and Alyssa Klier played key roles in tending the plants and organizing the sale. Thank you staff and students for all of your hard work.
Kiwanis Students of the Month
This week we had a chance to celebrate with our two students who were selected as the Kiwanis Students of the Month. Congratulations to Alexis Sanchez, and Estefania Perez Coronel and thank you Kiwanis for honoring our students. Both students will be attending the University of Washington this Fall!!
Student and Staff Calendar

Kinder Registration
Kinder Registration has begun for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. If you know a family who has a child turning 5 by August 31, 2024, please share this information with them. Registration packets can be completed online here.
Kinder Connect
This week the district continued to host Kinder Connect events. Kinder Connect is a time to allow students to interact with their school. We want to thank every staff member who helped with these events.

Don’t miss out! The MVHS Mariacho and Folklorico will open for the world famous comedian George Lopez tomorrow, Friday, May 24th at the Ilani Resort in Ridgefield Washington.

Washington organizó una Noche de ILC
La Primaria Washington organizó una Noche ILC, donde especialistas y educadores de ILC crearon actividades interesantes para que los estudiantes disfrutaran con sus familias. El propósito de este evento fue fomentar el trabajo en equipo entre las familias y brindar una oportunidad para conectarse y establecer contactos. ¡Muchas gracias al personal y a los socios de la Primaria Washington por organizar este evento especial!
Mariachi: De la Primaria al Colegio¡Gracias a MVSD!
¡El Mariachi está prosperando en el condado de Skagit Valley!Todo comenzó en 2012 cuando Jacob Scherr lanzó un club extraescolar de Mariachi en MVHS con solo nueve estudiantes. Día estatal de percusión de WA en MVHS
El fin de semana pasado, Daisy Cardona de Mount Vernon High School organizó y fue anfitriona del Día de Percusión del Capítulo de la Sociedad de Artes Percusivas del Estado de Washington. El evento contó con la participación de médicos de WSU, WWU y otros estimados directores de escuelas preparatorias. Los participantes asistieron a clínicas sobre batería, percusión de África occidental, percusión de marcha y fundamentos de marimba, con una actuación especial de Puyallup Pans of Steel Drum Band. Concierto de banda y orquesta de MVHS
Anoche tuve el placer de asistir al Concierto de Banda y Orquesta de MVHS. El evento llenó el auditorio de MVHS y contó con actuaciones de la Banda de Concierto, la Banda Sinfónica, el Conjunto de Viento, la Orquesta de Cámara y la Orquesta Sinfónica de MVHS.Nuestros estudiantes hicieron un trabajo increíble. Gracias al personal por organizar este evento.
Premios de la Academia NCTA
Esta semana, NCTA organizó sus Premios de la Academia para celebrar la finalización del programa. Las familias tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar el campus de NCTA y presenciar los increíbles logros de sus estudiantes este año. Gracias, NCTA, por organizar este evento.

Esta semana tuve la oportunidad de visitar Skagit Academy, donde la directora, Dra. Kecia Fox, y yo recorrimos las instalaciones de la escuela. ¡Gracias, Dr. Fox y al personal, por todo el gran aprendizaje y compromiso que brindan a nuestros increíbles estudiantes!
Laventure da la bienvenida a los nuevos entrantes de alumnos de 6to grado
Esta semana, la Escuela Secundaria LaVenture organizó un evento social con helados, brindando a los estudiantes entrantes de sexto grado la oportunidad de conectarse con los estudiantes y el personal. Las familias y los nuevos estudiantes recibieron recorridos por el edificio durante su visita. ¡Un gran saludo al personal y a los estudiantes de la escuela secundaria LaVenture!
Club de Jardinería de Jefferson
La semana pasada, la Primaria Jefferson realizó una exitosa venta de plantas, recaudando más de $1500 para el club de Jardinería de Jefferson a través de su venta anual de canastas de flores y plantas. Los estudiantes cuidaron estos inicios de plantas, generosamente donados por Smith Gardens, en el invernadero de Jefferson durante los últimos meses. Roberta Carlson, Tegaan Klinker y Alyssa Klier desempeñaron papeles clave en el cuidado de las plantas y la organización de la venta. Gracias al personal y a los estudiantes por todo su trabajo duro.
Estudiantes Kiwanis del Mes
Esta semana tuvimos la oportunidad de celebrar con nuestros dos estudiantes que fueron seleccionados como los Estudiantes Kiwanis del Mes. Felicitaciones a Alexis Sánchez y Estefanía Pérez Coronel y gracias Kiwanis por honrar a nuestros estudiantes. ¡¡Ambos estudiantes asistirán a la Universidad de Washington este otoño!!
