Upcoming Graduation Events
Skagit Academy recently held its graduation ceremony, celebrating the achievements of 15 dedicated students. Their hard work and commitment were truly inspiring. Aspire Academy's graduation ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12th at 6 PM at the Lincoln Theatre. Following that, NCTA will hold its graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 13th at 6 PM at NCTA. Finally, MVHS will celebrate its graduation on Friday, June 14th at 10 AM at the Angel of the Winds Arena. Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors! Your accomplishments are a testament to your perseverance and dedication. We are proud of each and every one of you.

MVSD honors retirees
During this week’s board meeting, we had the privilege of honoring this year's retirees. We want to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for their contributions and dedication to our schools, community, and students. Their hard work and commitment have made a lasting impact, and their presence will be greatly missed. Thank you for your years of service and for making a difference in the lives of so many. Best of luck in your next endeavors. You will always be a cherished part of the MVSD family. You can see some photos from the night’s event here.
Old YMCA Building
As you’ve likely heard, the roof of the Old YMCA pool section had failed and caved a few months ago. We promptly secured the building. Earlier this morning, one of the walls collapsed. We have been working with the City of Mount Vernon and contractors to determine a process of demolishing the failing pool area structure. We appreciate your patience as we work toward resolving this issue.
MVSD All-City Band Festival
On Wednesday night, the MVSD band program filled the gym for the 61st All-City Band Festival. This concert, celebrating 104 years of band and music in our district, featured performances from students in grades 5 through 12. A big shout out to all the directors involved in this event: Andrea Brannman (Mt. Baker), Rene Godina (Centennial & Madison), Jessica Hensey (Harriet Rowley), Jeremiah O’Brine (Little Mountain), Daisy Cardona (MVHS), Scott Rittenhouse (Jefferson), Jennifer Rubio (Washington), Jacob Scherr (MVHS), and Aaron Wagner (LaVenture).
MVHS Senior Night of Excellence
This week, MVHS hosted its Senior Night of Excellence, providing students the opportunity to celebrate alongside their classmates as they received scholarships and awards. This special evening honors the numerous accomplishments of our seniors. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff who made this event so memorable, and congratulations to the students. Little Mountain Lion Run
Yesterday, Little Mountain had their 3rd annual Lion Run. Students run during their specialists time and count their laps to go into a prize drawing. Students had a great day and lots of families came to cheer on their students and even help count laps. With the help of sponsors and donations every student was able to have a Lion Run T-Shirt. Thank you Little Mountain staff for helping put this special event together, and thank you parents who helped make this day special. Great job students!
MBMS holds Mock Trials
This week, Mount Baker Middle School hosted its annual Mock Trials. This two-day event provided students with the opportunity to showcase their skills as they navigated through a mock trial. A huge shout out to the city of Burlington for allowing us to hold the mock trial, and to our amazing staff—Samantha Sandoz, Kelsey Gearhart, and Geri Cleve. Great job, students!
Unified Dance
It was fantastic to see our students at the Unified Dance last Friday, May 31st. The ASB class did an outstanding job hosting and decorating for the annual event. Students had a wonderful time dancing, playing games, singing, and doing crafts.
Slavic History Month
The Heritage Slavic Club, now in its second year, includes both middle and high school students. Their activities aim to help participants explore and celebrate their cultural identity in a supportive and inclusive environment, fostering a sense of cultural pride and community connection. On Monday, June 3rd, they celebrated the end of the year by honoring their culture, students, and their achievements. Students performed songs and music, and families shared their traditional desserts and memories of their homeland. The event brought the community together, creating a time to connect. I am sharing a couple pictures from that event. Our high school teacher, Ramon Rivera, recently conducted an interview with students about their culture and the importance of staying connected. MBMS visits CWU
The Mount Baker MS Symphonic Band just had a wonderful overnight field trip to Central Washington University. We had a phenomenal rehearsal with Dr. T. Andre Feagin to prepare for our upcoming concert on June 13th. We also took a guided tour of the campus and attended the CWU Wind Ensemble concert later that same evening. The students got to hear a world premiere of a piano concerto in three movements, and were wowed by the sound and musicality of the ensemble.
Mud Kitchen at HRE
Traci Gromus and her woodshop students at the high school built a mud kitchen for the Harriet Rowley playground. This mud kitchen provides TK students with more play areas that are just the right size for them. This wonderful addition to their outdoor learning space is dedicated to Mrs. Pam Gromus, a beloved paraeducator who worked for many years at Harriet Rowley School and recently passed away. This is a beautiful way to remember Pam. Thank you Traci and MVHS woodshop students!
Enhanced communication at Washington Elementary
Recently, Sakura Drake, ILC teacher at Washington, was featured in an article for her work in installing a communication board on the Washington playground. This communication board makes playing on the playground more accessible for all students and is a way to improve communication with all students. You can read the article here. Thank you Sakura!
Exploring Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values through Classroom Visits
This week, I had the privilege of visiting Centennial Elementary with Principal Julie Sager, where we toured classrooms. Additionally, I had the opportunity to visit Mount Vernon High School alongside Principal Dr. Roche, with Dr. Vergara joining me for the MVHS classroom visits. These visits are always enlightening, allowing me to witness the remarkable activities taking place in our district. I observed students fully engaged in their learning, demonstrating eagerness and enthusiasm for knowledge.
MVHS Mariachi creating high school and beyond opportunities
MVHS proudly offers the first-ever Mariachi College in the High School class in Washington State. This year, the MV Mariachi group is making history by earning 2 college credits for their Advanced Mariachi class under the guidance of teacher Ramon Rivera. A huge thank you to Skagit Valley College Music Professor, Diane Johnson, and Ramon Rivera for collaborating to create these incredible opportunities for our students both in high school and beyond.
Field Trip to the Aquarium for TK and Kinder at HRE
This week, the TK and Kindergarten classes at HRE had an exciting trip to the aquarium. Thanks to a grant from the Seattle Aquarium, the tickets were free, and they even covered our bus fees. This field trip was a great opportunity for the students to deepen their knowledge about the Salish Sea, which they have been learning about in class.
Kiwanis honors students with scholarships
This week the Kiwanis club presented MVHS seniors with vital scholarship awards. This yearly event is an opportunity for the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon to give back to the future leaders of our city To learn more about the Kiwanis Club, you can find more information here.
June Rotary Students of the Month
This week, the Rotary Club of Mount Vernon honored two outstanding students of the month with a lunch and an opportunity to share about themselves. Additionally, every June, the Rotary recognizes a Teacher of the Year. This year, we want to congratulate Anezia Chapler and Kole Knott for their achievements, and MVHS teacher Eric Englman for his exceptional dedication. A big thank you to the Rotary Club for their contributions and commitment to honoring our students and educators.
Kinder Connect
This week the district completed the last of the Kinder Connect events. We want to thank every staff member who helped with these events. Registration for kindergarten is still open, and if you know a family who has a child turning 5 by August 31, 2024, please share this information with them. Registration packets can be completed online here.
Green and White Open
The 15th annual MVPSF Green and White Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday August 16th at Avalon beginning at 1pm. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, you can email Andy Schuh schuh21902@gmail.com for more information. You can volunteer for either morning or afternoon shifts (11am-2:30 or 2:30-6p).

Próximos eventos de graduación
Skagit Academy celebró recientemente su ceremonia de graduación, celebrando los logros de 15 estudiantes dedicados. Su duro trabajo y compromiso fueron verdaderamente inspiradores. La ceremonia de graduación de Aspire Academy está programada para el miércoles 12 de junio a las 6 p.m. en el Teatro Lincoln. MVSD honra a los jubilados
Durante la reunión de la junta directiva de esta semana, tuvimos el privilegio de honrar a los jubilados de este año. Queremos aprovechar esta oportunidad para expresar nuestro más sincero agradecimiento por sus contribuciones y dedicación a nuestras escuelas, comunidad y estudiantes. Su arduo trabajo y compromiso han tenido un impacto duradero y extrañaremos mucho su presencia. Gracias por sus años de servicio y por marcar la diferencia en la vida de tantas personas. Antiguo edificio de la YMCA
Como probablemente habrán escuchado, el techo de la sección de la piscina del antiguo edificio de la YMCA se había derrumbado hace unos meses. Rápidamente aseguramos el edificio. Esta semana uno de los muros se derrumbó. Hemos estado trabajando con la ciudad de Mount Vernon y contratistas para determinar un proceso de demolición de la estructura defectuosa del área de la piscina. Agradecemos su paciencia mientras trabajamos para resolver este problema.
Festival de Bandas de toda la ciudad
El miércoles por la noche, el programa de banda de MVSD llenó el gimnasio para el 61º Festival de Bandas de toda la ciudad. Noche de excelencia para estudiantes de último año de MVHS
Esta semana, MVHS organizó su Noche de Excelencia para estudiantes de último año, brindando a los estudiantes la oportunidad de celebrar junto a sus compañeros de clase mientras recibían becas y premios. Esta noche especial honra los numerosos logros de nuestros mayores.Un sincero agradecimiento a todo el personal que hizo que este evento fuera tan memorable y felicitaciones a los estudiantes. Little Mountain Lion RunAyer, Little Mountain tuvo su tercer Lion Run anual. Los estudiantes corren durante su tiempo de especialistas y cuentan sus vueltas para participar en un sorteo. Los estudiantes tuvieron un gran día y muchas familias vinieron a animar a sus estudiantes e incluso ayudaron a contar vueltas. Con la ayuda de patrocinadores y donaciones, cada estudiante pudo tener una camiseta de Lion Run. Gracias al personal de Little Mountain por ayudar a organizar este evento especial y gracias a los padres que ayudaron a hacer que este día fuera especial. ¡Buen trabajo estudiantes!
MBMS realiza simulacros de juicio
Esta semana, la escuela secundaria Mount Baker organizó sus juicios simulados anuales. Este evento de dos días brindó a los estudiantes la oportunidad de mostrar sus habilidades mientras navegaban a través de un juicio simulado. Un gran agradecimiento a la ciudad de Burlington por permitirnos realizar el juicio simulado y a nuestro increíble personal: Samantha Sandoz, Kelsey Gearhart y Geri Cleve. ¡Buen trabajo, estudiantes!
Baile unificado
Fue fantástico ver a nuestros estudiantes en el Baile Unificado el pasado viernes 31 de mayo. La clase ASB hizo un excelente trabajo organizando y decorando el evento anual. Los estudiantes se divirtieron mucho bailando, jugando, cantando y haciendo manualidades.
Mes de la historia eslava
El Heritage Slavic Club, ahora en su segundo año, incluye estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria. Sus actividades tienen como objetivo ayudar a los participantes a explorar y celebrar su identidad cultural en un entorno inclusivo y de apoyo, fomentando un sentido de orgullo cultural y conexión comunitaria. El lunes 3 de junio celebraron el fin de año honrando su cultura, sus estudiantes y sus logros. Los estudiantes interpretaron canciones y música, y las familias compartieron sus postres tradicionales y recuerdos de su tierra natal. El evento unió a la comunidad, creando un momento para conectarse. Les comparto un par de fotos de ese evento. Nuestro maestro de preparatoria, Ramón Rivera, realizó recientemente una entrevista con estudiantes sobre su cultura y la importancia de mantenerse conectados. Pueden ver ese vídeo con este enlace.
MBMS visita CWU
La Banda Sinfónica de Mount Baker MS acaba de realizar una maravillosa excursión nocturna a la Universidad Central de Washington. Tuvieron un ensayo fenomenal con el Dr. T. Andre Feagin para prepararse para nuestro próximo concierto el 13 de junio. También realizaron una visita guiada por el campus y asistieron al concierto del CWU Wind Ensemble esa misma noche. Los estudiantes pudieron escuchar el estreno mundial de un concierto para piano en tres movimientos y quedaron cautivados por el sonido y la musicalidad del conjunto.
Cocina de construccion
Traci Gromus y sus estudiantes de carpintería en la escuela primaria construyeron una cocina de barro para el patio de juegos de Harriet Rowley. Esta cocina de barro ofrece a los estudiantes de TK más áreas de juego del tamaño adecuado para ellos. Esta maravillosa adición a su espacio de aprendizaje al aire libre está dedicada a la Sra. Pam Gromus, una querida paraeducadora que trabajó durante muchos años en la escuela Harriet Rowley y falleció recientemente. Esta es una hermosa manera de recordar a Pam. ¡Gracias Traci y los estudiantes de carpintería de MVHS!
Comunicación mejorada en la escuela Primaria Washington
Recientemente, Sakura Drake, profesora de ILC en Washington, apareció en un artículo por su trabajo en la instalación de un tablero de comunicación en el patio de recreo de Washington. Este tablero de comunicación hace que jugar en el patio de recreo sea más accesible para todos los estudiantes y es una forma de mejorar la comunicación con todos los estudiantes. Explorando el Pilar 1: Misión, Visión y Valores Fundamentales a través de visitas a las clases.
Esta semana tuve el privilegio de visitar la Primaria Centennial con la directora Julie Sager, donde recorrimos las clases. Además, tuve la oportunidad de visitar la escuela secundaria Mount Vernon junto con la directora Dr. Roche, y el Dr. Vergara quien me acompañó en las visitas a los salones de clases de MVHS. Estas visitas son siempre esclarecedoras y me permiten ser testigo de las notables actividades que tienen lugar en nuestro distrito. Observé a los estudiantes plenamente comprometidos con su aprendizaje, demostrando afán y entusiasmo por el conocimiento.
MVHS Mariachi crea oportunidades en la preparatoria y más allá
MVHS se enorgullece de ofrecer el primer Mariachi College en la clase de escuela preparatoria en el estado de Washington. Este año, el grupo MV Mariachi está haciendo historia al obtener 2 créditos universitarios por su clase avanzada de Mariachi bajo la guía del maestro Ramón Rivera. Un enorme agradecimiento a la profesora de música de Skagit Valley College, Diane Johnson, y a Ramon Rivera por colaborar para crear estas increíbles oportunidades para nuestros estudiantes tanto en la escuela preparatoria como en el futuro.
Excursión al acuario para TK y Kinder en HRE
Esta semana, las clases de TK y Kindergarten de HRE tuvieron un emocionante viaje al acuario. Gracias a una beca del Acuario de Seattle, los boletos eran gratuitos e incluso cubrían nuestros gastos de autobús. Esta excursión fue una gran oportunidad para que los estudiantes profundicen sus conocimientos sobre el Mar Salish, que han estado aprendiendo en clase.
Kiwanis honra a los estudiantes con becas
Esta semana, el club Kiwanis entregó a los estudiantes del último año de MVHS importantes becas. Este evento anual es una oportunidad para que el Club Kiwanis de Mount Vernon retribuya a los futuros líderes de nuestra ciudad. Estudiantes Rotarios del Mes de Junio
Esta semana, el Club Rotario de Mount Vernon honró a dos estudiantes destacados del mes con un almuerzo y la oportunidad de compartir sobre sí mismos. Conecta a Kinder
Esta semana el distrito completó el último evento de Conecta a Kinder. Queremos agradecer a todos los miembros del personal que ayudaron con estos eventos. La inscripción para Kinder aún está abierta y si conoce a una familia que tenga un hijo que cumpla 5 años antes del 31 de agosto de 2024, comparta esta información con ellos. Green and White Open
El 15º Torneo anual de golf verde y blanco de MVPSF está programado para el viernes 16 de agosto en Avalon a partir de la 1 p.m. Si está interesado en ofrecerse como voluntario para este evento, puede enviar un correo electrónico a Andy Schuh schuh21902@gmail.com para obtener más información.
