Black History Month
This month we celebrate Black History month, a time to recognize the contributions of Black Americans in the United States. This month honors those who have changed the world, who devoted their lives to bring unity in our country, and for the dedication they’ve had in the pursuit of justice for all.
MVHS Mariachi and Folklorico perform for Governor Inslee
The MVHS Mariachi and Folklorico students had an opportunity to perform for Governor Inlsee this week during Latino Legislative Day held during the Legislative session. This private Zoom meeting gave the students an opportunity to talk with Governor Inslee one-on-one. Governor Inslee gave students an opportunity to share what their goals for the future were. MVHS Registration Nights
Mount Vernon High School hosted a Registration Night and Elective Fair on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Tuesday’s event was for next year's 10-12 grade students and Thursday’s event was for the incoming 9th grade students and their families. Combined, the events drew well over 800 students and families where they had the opportunity to meet teachers, listen to presentations, and explore educational opportunities. It was a positive and welcoming experience! Thank you to all MVHS staff for their hard work in putting on this very successful event!!!
MVHS Debate Team
Several members of the MVHS Debate Team competed at the Thomas Foley Memorial Tournament this past weekend. Here are our results:
Junior Sam Kiehn earned 6th place in Championship Congress
9th grader Matty Reiss made it to finals in Novice Congress
Seniors Archer Otero and Jesus Gallardo-Flores earned 3rd place in Open Duo.
9th grader Taite Kirkpatrick earned 3rd in Radio Speaking, 2nd in Open Congress and 4th in Open Lincoln-Douglas debate
Golden Apple Award
Ramon Rivera has been awarded the Golden Apple Award by KCTA Channel 9. This award “honors successful teaching models and programs among Washington state educators”. First started 22 years ago, it recognizes teachers who bring success to their classrooms and students. The Mount Vernon School District congratulations Mr. Rivera for his recognition. We appreciate his care and attention to our students and programs that make Mount Vernon High School (and the district!) the place to be. A piece of history, Dave Anderson, former Mount Vernon High School principal, was a recipient of the award in 2008.

Mes Nacional de la Historia afreoestadounidense
Este mes celebramos el Mes Nacional de la Historia afroestadounidense, un momento para reconocer las contribuciones de los afroamericanos en los Estados Unidos. Este mes honra a aquellos que han cambiado el mundo, que dedicaron sus vidas a traer unidad a nuestro país y por la dedicación que han tenido en la búsqueda de la justicia para todos.
MVHS Mariachi y Folklorico actúan para el gobernador Inslee
Los estudiantes de Mariachi y Folklórico de MVHS tuvieron la oportunidad de cantar y bailar para el gobernador Inlsee esta semana durante el Día Legislativo Latino que se llevó a cabo durante la sesión legislativa. Esta reunión privada de Zoom les dio a los estudiantes la oportunidad de hablar uno a uno con el gobernador Inslee. El gobernador Inslee les dio a los estudiantes la oportunidad de compartir cuáles eran sus metas para el futuro. Puedes leer más sobre esto aquí. Noches de registro de MVHS
La Escuela Secundaria Mount Vernon organizó una Noche de Inscripción y una Feria de Electivos el martes y jueves de esta semana. El evento del martes fue para los estudiantes de los grados 10-12 del próximo año y el evento del jueves fue para los estudiantes de noveno grado entrantes y sus familias. Combinados, los eventos atrajeron a más de 800 estudiantes y familias donde tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a maestros, escuchar presentaciones y explorar oportunidades educativas. ¡Fue una experiencia positiva y acogedora! ¡Gracias a todo el personal de MVHS por su arduo trabajo para organizar este evento tan exitoso!
Equipo de debate de MVHS
Varios miembros del Equipo de Debate de MVHS compitieron en el Torneo Conmemorativo Thomas Foley el pasado fin de semana. Aquí están nuestros resultados:
Junior Sam Kiehn obtuvo el 6to lugar en el Campeonato del Congreso
Matty Reiss, estudiante de noveno grado, llegó a la final en el Congreso de novicios
Los estudiantes Archer Otero y Jesus Gallardo-Flores obtuvieron el 3er lugar en Open Duo.
Taite Kirkpatrick, estudiante de noveno grado, obtuvo el 3.º lugar en Habla radial, el 2.º en Congreso abierto y el 4.º en debate abierto Lincoln-Douglas
Ramón Rivera ha sido galardonado con el premio Golden Apple de KCTA Channel 9.
Este premio “honra los modelos y programas de enseñanza exitosos entre los educadores del estado de Washington”. Iniciado hace 22 años, reconoce a los maestros que brindan éxito a sus aulas y estudiantes. El Distrito Escolar de Mount Vernon felicita al Sr. Rivera por su reconocimiento. Apreciamos su cuidado y atención a nuestros estudiantes y programas que hacen de Mount Vernon High School (¡y el distrito!) el lugar para estar. Un pedazo de historia, Dave Anderson, ex director de la Escuela Secundaria Mount Vernon, recibió el premio en 2008.
