What is Canvas
We are excited to have deployed Canvas to secondary students as our new learning management system. Canvas will act as a central location for communication, coursework, assignments, and grades. As a parent, you play an essential role in your student’s education, and Canvas will provide you with the ability to stay informed and engaged in their learning.
How to get Connected

You will receive an email titled “Finish Registration: Canvas” from Canvas at the email address registered in Skyward. Please check your spam/junk folder if you do not see the email.

The email will provide you with steps to get logged in with your new Canvas Parent account.

If you do not receive the communication, your email in Skyward may need to be updated. Please reach out to your student’s school front office, and they will assist you in updating your information.
Alternative Pathway to get Connected
If you are unable to access your Canvas parent account through the email invitation, you can create an account using a pairing code provided by your student.
To Create an Account Using a Pairing Code:

Have your student log into Canvas.

Click on Account > Settings.

Select “Pair with Observer” to generate a unique code.

Use the code to create a parent account by visiting https://mvsd.instructure.com/login/canvas and selecting “Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here for an Account.”
