In our ongoing efforts towards Equity and Social Justice for All, it is important for us to acknowledge the accomplishments of Black Americans, especially as we observe African American History Month. This month serves as a tribute to the diverse experiences, struggles, and triumphs of African American individuals throughout history and in the present. This year’s theme is African Americans and the Arts which highlights the key influence African Americans have had in the fields of "visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression.” You can learn more about this year’s theme here.
National School Counselors Week
February 5th-9th is National School Counselors Week. Upcoming Levy Initiatives
This week we hosted our second of two community presentations where we shared information on how K-12 schools are funded, what levies are, and how the district utilizes these funds. Swinomish School Partnership Meeting
During the Swinomish School Partnership meeting earlier this week, collaborative efforts were shared as we explored ways to strengthen the bond between the Swinomish Tribe and district staff from Mount Vernon and neighboring districts. This quarterly gathering serves as a valuable platform not only to build community but also to foster a dynamic exchange of knowledge and insights. As we work together, our shared goal is to create a more inclusive and culturally responsive educational environment, ensuring that every student receives the support and resources needed for their academic success. The Swinomish School Partnership is a testament to the commitment of both the tribe and the school district in promoting meaningful collaboration and understanding for the benefit of the entire community.

The MV Mariachi & MV Folklorico are organizing a Pancake Fundraiser to raise funds for their MV Mariachi Spring Trip. If you wish to take part, come and join them at the Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, February 24th, from 8-10 am at Applebee's in Burlington. Tickets are $10 and includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, or juice. MV Mariachi and MV Folklorico students will be serving tables.
