Leading With Equity

Mount Vernon School District defines equity as providing every student what they need to be successful. Our Equity Department works alongside schools, families, and community partners to make sure every Mount Vernon student is seen, supported, and challenged — and to eliminate race, language, ability, or zip code as predictors of who thrives in our schools.

Our work centers on three commitments:

  • Meaningful cross-cultural exchange in every classroom and every relationship
  • Eliminating race as a predictor of student achievement and opportunity
  • Fostering belonging across the Mount Vernon community

The Equity Team

Our Equity Team supports schools, classrooms, and families across the district. Reach the office at (360) 428-6107, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Equity work in our policies

The district's Racial Equity Policy (1801) and the accompanying Racial Equity Action Plan (1801.1) formalize our commitments and the work to deliver on them. Both are available on the School Board Policies & Procedures page in English and Spanish.
