Curriculum & Assessment
What students learn — and how we know they're learning it — is at the heart of Teaching, Learning & Leadership. Mount Vernon's curriculum is built around high-quality, research-based materials aligned to Washington State Learning Standards, and our assessment program is designed to give teachers and families the information they need to support every student's growth.
Curriculum
We choose and refresh instructional materials on a deliberate cycle, with classroom teachers driving the decisions. Current adoptions emphasize evidence-based literacy (ARC Core + UFLI), problem-solving math (Bridges, with a pilot underway), inquiry-based science (Mystery Science / Amplify), and culturally responsive practice across every subject.
Assessment
State and district assessments help us understand whether students are on track and where they need extra support. Mount Vernon administers Smarter Balanced (ELA + Math), Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science, and WIDA ACCESS, plus district benchmark assessments throughout the year. Results are returned to families through Skyward.
