Latinos in Action

Latinos in Action (LIA) is a leadership-development program that empowers Latino students to access higher education, give back to their communities, and become tomorrow's civic leaders. Mount Vernon partners with the national LIA network to bring its proven model to our middle and high school students.

The LIA curriculum centers on four pillars:

• Leverage personal & cultural strengths — students explore identity, family history, and the leadership traditions already in their lives
• Excellence in education — rigorous academic preparation including college and career planning
• Service to community — semester-long projects that give back to schools and neighborhoods
• Empowerment through skill-building — public speaking, presentation, and bilingual literacy
