Classroom Technology to Enhance Learning
Technology in Mount Vernon classrooms is a means, not an end. Devices, software, and digital tools earn their place when they let students do things they couldn't do otherwise — connect with subject-area experts, simulate phenomena, collaborate across distance, demonstrate learning in their own voice, and access content at their own pace.
The Teaching, Learning & Leadership office partners with the IT department and our Digital Literacy Specialist to make sure classroom technology serves instruction:
- 1:1 student device program — every K-12 student has a district-provided device for learning
- Vetted classroom tools — software and SaaS platforms are reviewed for student privacy (COPPA, FERPA, state student data laws) before classroom use
- Coaching for teachers — Katie Dorr (Tech Integration Support Specialist) provides on-demand and embedded coaching so teachers can adopt new tools with confidence
- Adaptive and accessible tools — assistive technology, text-to-speech, translation, and other tools that broaden access for students with diverse learning needs
